Contemporary Issues in Indigenous Environmental Studies

This course introduces the contemporary ecological challenges facing Indigenous communities in North America. It explores the historical roots of Traditional Ecological Knowledge in Anishinabek culture and cases where Western industrial practices have harmed Indigenous communities. Cooperative practices and strategies are examined as well as a variety of Indigenous stewardship practices. Although the emphasis is on North America, the course also considers global Indigenous responses. (lec 3) cr 3.
