Women in the Ancient World

This course focuses on the development of attitudes towards women and their place in the ancient Near East and the Classical World. A wide variety of literary and archaeological evidence is used to investigate such topics as marriage, divorce, adultery, lesbianism, witchcraft, female infanticide, and the classical roots of attitudes towards women in Western society.
